File Under: Problems of the privileged.
Some dickheads (more specifically, these dickeads) have decided that the Olympic Torch relay is the place to share the ‘pro-life’ message.
Since, fortunately, none of these places are near me, my sick remains at the back of my mouth rather than all over the floor. But for those of you in Swansea, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Southampton and London, share, watch out, engage, fight, get angry, do whatever it is that will let those nobs realise that they’re the ones in the minority and they’re the ones that need to be stopped.
- Swansea torch arrives: 26th May
- Newcastle torch arrives: 15th June
- Manchester torch arrives: 23rd June
- Birmingham torch arrives: 30th June
- Southampton torch arrives: 14th July
- London torch arrives: 21st July
Fuck the fuckers, fuck ‘em.
porque voy a Barcelona en dos semanas!
I pretty much only speak Spanish with any confidence when I’m drunk so we shall see!
¡Cerveza por favor!
- So what's your PhD on?
- Youth and gender studies.
- Oh, well you wont like me then, I'm a male chauvinist pig.
- Probably not then [walks away].
Get ethical clearance to undertake focus groups, convince schools to let me undertake said focus groups, organise said focus groups, organise equipment for said focus groups, mark a bunch of exam scripts, invigilate a bunch of exams, write a proposal for an edited collection, write a proposal to hold conference, submit application to fund said conference, organise a speaker for an outreach project.
Did I mention that this was the month that I have to submit my chapter? This is the month I have to submit my chapter.
but I really should have an early night because I have the longest day tomorrow and I’m running out of energy in this one.
I feel like such a dick when I spend my time worrying about such things when really there are much bigger things going on rightaboutnow.
Blergh.
I like Tiny Desk Concerts, and YACHT have done one, you can (and should) watch it here.
Been citing her for approximately six years, in fact, she features so often in my notes that writing her name is almost like writing my signature. I never once thought that she would be Scottish (despite the name).
MIND = BLOWN.
and even though it’s made this month incredibly tiring, busy and distracted, it’s been kind of interesting and a little bit inspiring.
Let it be said that when you’re forced to stand in silence for long periods of time, your mind wanders to totally reasonable depths considering the amount of time that you have with nothing other than your mind to keep you company. Reflection is quite fantastic and perspective is really wonderful.
Anyhow, yesterday I invigilated some computer programming exams and they were full of girls, and I thought to myself, HOW FANTASTIC! This morning, one of the exams I invigilated was in multi-ethnic American writing, and I thought HOW BRILLIANT that this is being taught and reflected upon in this university. I’ve watched people enter the exam room in terror, I’ve seen people stride out with pride (the smug and non-smug), I’ve seen people leave in tears, and I’ve seen hundreds of simultaneously thinking faces (that is really something to behold).
What a really interesting, really boring job.
